Manish Girdhar

About the Researcher :

Gp Capt Manish Girdhar, VM was commissioned in the flying branch as a helicopter pilot in Jun 1989. An alumnus of National Defence Academy, he has flown 4500 hours on Mi-8, Mi-17 and Chetak helicopters. He has operated extensively in North East sector, offshore at Bombay High and the A & N Islands and has had tenures in the prestigious Air HQ Communication Squadron and as SFSIO of an operational flying wing. He was also part of the pioneer Indian Aviation Contingent to the UN Mission in Sudan (UNMIS). He then successfully commanded an operational MI-8 squadron for two years and is presently working as a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS).
He was awarded the Vayu Sena Medal for Gallantry in 2005 for accomplishing an extremely difficult rescue operation. He has also been awarded Commendation by CAS twice and Commendation by C-in-C, A&N Command for various acts of flying excellence.
