South Asia is the second most unstable region in the world after West Asia. The main causes for the prevailing instability are the ongoing conflict in the Afghanistan-Pakistan (Af-Pak) area and the nearly seven decades old standoff on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) between India and Pakistan. Pakistan�s proxy war against India, now in its third decade, also contributes substantially to regional instability.
